Early 1900s framed print featuring the famed courtroom speech, A Tribute to the Dog. George Graham Vest of Missouri delivered his famous eulogy in 1870 while representing Charles Burden and his deceased foxhound Old Drum during the trial of. To this day it is considered one of the most enduring passages of purple prose in American courtroom history.
The center of the print features a Victorian b&w photograph of a Boston Terrier. The original, printed by PF Volland Co, featured a portrait of a German Shepherd in the center. Over time, it became somewhat common practice for people to place a portrait of their own dog in the center. Frame measures 12 x 8 and in depth.Photograph measures 5¼ x 3. Some signs of age and wear. Light fading and discoloration of print, backing paper is torn. There is a small piece of the original framing hardware that has become displaced, please refer to the last photo.
